Romsey was hosting a musical / street theatre event during our visit, and when arriving (something the 'what's on' didnt come up with, hence the nightmare that was parking!
Called 'The Beggar's Fair' it was an ecclectic and at times eccentric mix!
Romsey Abbey is the final resting olace of Lord Louis, the Earl Mountbatten of Burma.
Unusually his coffins rests in a North-South Position, so he faced, at his request the sea (as his wife Edwina was buried at sea)
It's a simple gravestone in the St Nicholas Chapel
As well as the musical event, there was a Quilting display on throughout the Abbey, and some amazing examples of work.
As I walked around a choir was performing and it made the visit even more special to hear voices singing out
Towards the high altar, to the side, is the Mountbatten Pew.
Wooden carvings depict Lord Louis and Lady Edwina, and also two inscribed dedications. Firstly to the Earl, and also the young daughter of the current Earl and Countess (Penny and Norton). Their daughter Leonora died in the mid 1990's
Romsey was a lovely place to visit, made that more special with all the entertainment.
